An extremely underrated aspect of the New York Knicks' run to the NBA Finals last season was the outstanding performance from Karl-Anthony Towns.
Towns became a focal point of the New York offense, averaging 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Towns has carried that success into the 2026-27 season, and his monster performance Tuesday led the Knicks to their first win this season.
In what was a much-needed win for New York, Towns posted 27 points and 20 rebounds, both season highs. It was the first time since Feb. 4, 2025, that Towns had reached both 20-plus points and rebounds in a game.
The double-double for Towns was his fourth in as many games this season, something that he led the league in last season with 56. He's eclipsed 20 points and 10 rebounds in three of the four games, proving that he is still capable of carrying the offense when others are struggling.

The first win of the season for the Knicks is a major weight off the shoulders of the defending champions, and they can now focus on stringing together multiple wins.
The first chance for that will be Wednesday against a struggling Chicago Bulls team. After that, it'll be a marquee matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, followed by a game against the Brooklyn Nets and another game against Chicago.
If the Knicks can put together an offensive and defensive performance like they did on Tuesday, the reigning champs will be right back to playing some of the best basketball in the league.
