Brewers' William Contreras named World Series MVP after stellar performance

For the first time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers have won the World Series.

Milwaukee capped off an incredible postseason Wednesday with a 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays to secure the first championship in the 57-year history of the franchise.

The Brewers had several standout performances throughout the series, but no player was more impactful than 28-year-old catcher William Contreras.

William Contreras has been named World Series MVP

Monster performances in the first three games combined with his outstanding defense, Contreras was named World Series MVP. He is the first catcher to win World Series MVP since Salvador Perez did so in 2015 and just the eighth catcher to ever accomplish the feat.

Contreras recorded three consecutive multi-hit performances in Games 1-3, a major reason why Milwaukee jumped out to a 3-0 series lead. His defense was also on display in the World Series, as he became the first catcher since 1984 to catch four runners stealing in the first four games of a World Series.

It is the exact type of performance Milwaukee envisioned from Contreras when it acquired him from the Atlanta Braves ahead of the 2023 season.
