Cowboys' Joey Porter Jr. responds to critics after wild Richard Sherman accusation

Shortly after the Dallas Cowboys acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers in late September, he made his Cowboys debut in the club's 34-30 win over the Houston Texans on Oct. 4. However, he was then unable to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 8 due to an apparent stomach bug.

On the night of the Dallas-Tampa Bay game, former player and current analyst Richard Sherman suggested that Porter "would have been a little healthier" that evening had the Cowboys given the 26-year-old a contract extension.

During a recent chat with Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Porter revealed that he has heard "some of the noise" regarding what has been said and written about him over the past few months.

Joey Porter Jr.: Critics will "be quiet soon"

"Me personally, I know the real," Porter explained. "I know the truth. I don’t really pay too much attention online to what they have to say. I just got to keep doing my job on Sundays. Once they see the tape, they’ll know. They’ll be quiet soon."

Porter didn't play for the Steelers over the first three weeks of the season due to a reported back injury that some think was related to his desire for a contract extension. He ultimately agreed to bet on himself and play for the Cowboys on the final year of his existing deal, and that could prove to be a wise business decision.

Per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Porter has allowed just one catch for five yards on nine targets in three games. As recently as Tuesday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that Porter is "a shutdown corner" and "everybody’s dream" at the position.

Joey Porter Jr. knows Cowboys "still have some stuff to clean up" after win over Eagles

Shortly after Dallas defeated a Philadelphia Eagles team that was without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts (blood clots) this past Monday night, Cowboys legend and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman made it known he wasn't all that impressed by how the Dallas defense played in the 38-21 win.

"We just got to keep stacking what we’re doing," Porter said. "We still have some stuff to clean up, but we’re headed in the right direction. We can be happy about that for now."

Porter and Co. will attempt to continue heading in the right direction when 3-4 Dallas hosts the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Cowboys as 6.5-point home favorites for that game.
