Kyrie Irving might be getting his shot to return to the East Coast.

The Miami Heat are monitoring the Dallas Mavericks guard Irving on the trade market, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Wednesday. Charania does note though that the Mavericks’ asking price will likely be more than the one future first-round pick that the Heat currently have available for trade.

Irving, 34, is the last holdover in Dallas when it comes to the old guard. As the Mavericks hand over the keys of the franchise to 19-year-old star Cooper Flagg, Irving appears to be getting phased out.

That much has also been reflected by Irving’s numbers to begin the 2026-27 season. Over his first three games, the nine-time All-Star Irving has averaged a modest 19.0 points and 3.7 assists per game.

As for Irving’s contract situation, he is owed $39.5 million this season and holds a $42.4 million player option for 2027-28 as well. That could well match the timeline of the win-now Heat, who are off to a 1-4 start to the season and lack a reliable, proven perimeter scorer to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Irving has also drawn interest from other Eastern Conference contenders in recent weeks. But the Heat already have some of Irving’s former Mavericks teammates on the roster (like Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr.), and they could now being trying to make it a trifecta by going after Irving himself.
