While Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor has not officially asked for a change of scenery, rumors continue to suggest that he will be made part of the Colts' apparent fire sale before the NFL trade deadline arrives on Nov. 10.
Taylor was asked about his uncertain future during his Thursday news conference.
"I haven't heard anything," Taylor said about a possible trade, as shared by Mike Chappell of Fox59/CBS4 Sports. "And I can't control that. Obviously, like you guys know, I'm always proud to wear the horseshoe. Proud to be here."
Taylor noted that eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner were also "proud" to play for the Colts. On Tuesday, the Colts acquired future draft assets for Nelson and Buckner.
"Circumstances may cause otherwise," Taylor continued. "Hopefully that day may not come. But I can't control that. Only thing I can control is rallying these guys in the locker room, helping us put together a great plan and executing a great plan [for when the 2-5 Colts play at the 4-2 Jacksonville Jaguars this coming Sunday]."
Per Chappell, Taylor also confirmed he has not asked for a trade and has spoken with Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon "to discuss his role with franchise."
While a recent report said that Irsay-Gordon "doesn't want" to trade Taylor, some think that may be "posturing" in an attempt to get more for him in an eventual deal. Taylor signed a contract extension this past summer that could allow the Colts to retain his rights through 2028, so they could keep him as a cornerstone piece through at least the start of the 2027 campaign.
On Wednesday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen publicly warned his players that "anything can happen" on "any given Sunday" as it pertains to Jacksonville facing an Indianapolis team that seemingly is punting on the rest of this season.
"They're licking their chops right now," Taylor said about the Jaguars. "They think they're, ya know, gonna kick us while we're down. And that has to be a point of emphasis."
As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Colts as 10-point road underdogs against the Jaguars. It sounds like Taylor will take the EverBank Stadium field as an Indianapolis player this weekend, but it's still unclear if he will be with the Colts when Week 10 gets underway.
