The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series in franchise history on Wednesday night, but the entire team wished Bob Uecker could have been around to see it.

Uecker, the Brewers’ famous longtime radio voice, died at 90 in January of 2025, but his name was invoked frequently both during and after the team’s run to the championship. Christian Yelich, one of the longest-tenured Brewers, summed that up in his postgame interview.

“He’s smiling, man. I really wish he could have been here to see this,” Yelich said. “It would have meant everything to him, but like we said a bunch, he’s been with us a lot. We keep him close to our hearts.

“This one’s still for Bob, still for Ueck. Uecky, I love you, man, and we did it.”

Uecker died of cancer in January 2025. He was recognizable nationally thanks to his commercial exploits and his role in “Major League.” He was particularly loved in Milwaukee, where he had called games since 1971.
