Chandler Smith wins NASCAR Truck Series race at Martinsville; Layne Riggs gains on Kaden Honeycutt

Layne Riggs ran a perfect race at Martinsville Speedway on Friday until the final restart.

A win would've given Riggs, who swept the stages and had the fastest lap of the Black's Tire 200, a one-point lead over Kaden Honeycutt, who had a 43-point advantage over Riggs entering the weekend. But Riggs' Front Row Motorsports teammate, Chandler Smith, outdueled him on the final restart, clearing Riggs for the lead from the outside lane — a tremendously difficult feat at Martinsville.

While Riggs held onto third, Honeycutt dropped like a rock after the final restart due to contact with Tristan McKee and was lucky to finish 14th. Honeycutt leads Riggs by 20 points going into the Nov. 6 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Smith, meanwhile, scored his third win of the season and moved into third in the standings, though he and every driver below Honeycutt and Riggs in the Chase standings are eliminated from title contention.

"Just God's plan," Smith told Fox Sports. "All praise and glory to the Lord. We've been through a very rough patch since the Chase started. We've kept our heads down. We've stayed faithful. I'm truly humbled right now for this experience. Martinsville's been one on my bucket list for a while.

"Front Row Motorsports, we got one more race to do with them. It's very bittersweet. I'm very happy that we can deliver a clock to Bob Jenkins."

Smith, 24, is leaving FRM and the Truck Series at season's end to race in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series for Richard Childress Racing in 2027.

Ben Rhodes finished runner-up, with Riggs, Ty Majeski and polesitter McKee rounding out the top five. McKee is now the youngest pole winner in Truck Series history.

Andres Perez, Tyler Ankrum, Gio Ruggiero, William Sawalich and Christian Eckes completed the top 10.

Other notable finishers include Grant Enfinger in 11th, Brenden Queen in 12th, Daniel Hemric in 15th, Corey LaJoie in 20th and Gavan Boschele in 24th. Connor Jones finished last (36th) after a mechanical issue took him out after only 95 laps.

The 134-lap, 200-mile Truck Series finale will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, NRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
