Jim Harbaugh reliving unique NFL history as Chargers fall to 0-7

The trio of Jim Harbaugh, Mike McDaniel and Justin Herbert were supposed to lead the Los Angeles Chargers to great new heights. The team was even a dark-horse Super Bowl contender entering the season.

The Chargers are now a shocking 0-7 following Sunday's 24-9 loss against the Los Angeles Rams. Herbert had zero touchdowns and two interceptions as his nightmare season continues on as well.

ESPN decided to share a few stats after the game, with one in particular highlighting how 2026 is a replay of 2000 for Harbaugh.

Jim Harbaugh went 0-7 with the Chargers once before

The "ESPN Insights" X account shared a shocking fact about Harbaugh.

As the post notes, the last time the Chargers started a season with an 0-7 record was back in 2000. That year saw Harbaugh make five starts, losing all five, on a 1-15 Chargers team that was still trying to make things work with Ryan Leaf. That team ultimately went 0-11 before picking up a win.

The difference between the 2000 Chargers and the 2026 Chargers, aside from the city the team calls home, is the fact Herbert is a proven quarterback fresh off a Pro-Bowl season. This 2026 edition even had Super Bowl aspirations.

The post also brings up a shocking stat related to McDaniel. His Chargers offense has gone 27 straight drives without a touchdown. That hasn't happened in the NFL since 2004, for McDaniel's offense in Miami.

This is an abject disaster for all involved and the Chargers may be considering massive changes ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

Retaining McDaniel for much longer may not make any logical sense given the state of the offense.
