There is no denying that Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest players in Oklahoma City Thunder history.
Westbrook spent the first 11 seasons of his career with Oklahoma City and became a fan favorite due to his gritty style of play and his passion and love for the city.
That love and passion that Westbrook gave to the organization and to the city will be returned to him later this season after an announcement on Monday.
A video posted across the Thunder's social media channels Monday afternoon revealed that the franchise will be retiring Westbrook's #0 later this season.
The ceremony will be held on Feb. 7, and Westbrook was overcome with emotion when OKC general manager Sam Presti made the announcement to Westbrook while on a panel together.
"Many players make an impact, but only great players leave a legacy," Presti said. "Oklahomans consider him one of their own and his number will be raised to the rafters in Oklahoma City forever."

Westbrook's tenure with Oklahoma City was highlighted by his MVP Award in the 2016-17 season, but the impact went far beyond that.
He is the franchise's all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, minutes and games played. Westbrook was an eight-time All-NBA selection, as well as an eight-time All-Star Game participant. From the moment he took the court in an OKC uniform, he played with a fire and passion that not many can play with on a nightly basis.
It is a well-deserved honor for the franchise icon, and it is the first step toward what will eventually be a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction.
