The Baltimore Ravens are dealing with a nightmare scenario, even with a 4-4 record.
Lamar Jackson returned to the field Sunday, only to suffer a likely season-ending thumb injury on his first throw. His entire tenure in Baltimore may be over as well.
For now, the team needs to focus on replacing Jackson and staying competitive to avoid a lost season. That task is already being made much harder following backup QB Tyler Huntley's toe injury he suffered Sunday.
That leaves undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano out of UConn as the next man up. That is, if he is healthy enough to play.
Ravens HC Jesse Minter spoke to the media Monday and, per insider Ian Rapoport, said Fagnano "has a chance" to play Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is reportedly dealing with an ankle injury.

That leaves the team in a situation where yet another quarterback may be needed on short notice.
The Ravens know this and signed Austin Reed to the practice squad. He spent the summer with the team after a full season as a starter for the UFL's Dallas Renegades.
No matter what happens Thursday, it seems clear the Ravens will look to acquire a veteran before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Jacoby Brissett seems like a top option after his recent demotion with the Arizona Cardinals, but plenty of backups around the league are on the table for a Ravens offense in crisis.
Chicago Bears backup Tyson Bagent is another notable option.
This is not what the Ravens had in mind when the season began, yet a 4-4 start allows for a surprise signal-caller to step in and potentially lead the team to the postseason with above-average play.
