Victor Wembanyama showed some self-awareness with his latest comments about living in the United States.

The San Antonio Spurs star recently appeared on “60 Minutes” and shared his perspective on several topics. Wembanyama opened up about his bond with Gregg Popovich, his love for walking around barefoot, and his offseason sabbatical with Shaolin monks.

L. Jon Wertheim also asked the Frenchman about his experience living in America. The Spurs refused to give a proper answer and explained why.

“My answer is always, ‘Well, I don’t know, because I don’t live a normal life in the U.S.’ I live the life of an athlete, of a rich person, you know, the life of somebody that’s going to have everything taken care of, you know, no matter what I do, really,” Wembanyama told Wertheim.

“It’s not the life of the regular American. But it’s the best country to be an athlete in.”

Wembanyama arguably lives the furthest from the average American life. He is a 7’4″ foreigner living in a city where the citizens absolutely adore him. He also signed a $252 million contract extension with the Spurs in July, giving him near-unlimited funds to do anything he wants when he’s not terrorizing opponents in the paint.

Fans hoping to hear more from Wembanyama should not get their hopes up. After his interview on “60 Minutes,” the Spurs phenom is reportedly spurning American media outlets for the foreseeable future.
