USC Trojans pull DL Simeon Jones Jr. from James Madison

It's a long way from North Augusta, South Carolina, to Los Angeles, California. In fact, it's roughly 2,300 miles.

That distance doesn't mean a thing for three-star defensive lineman Simeon Jones Jr., though.

Jones recently received an offer from Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans, and that led to him hopping a flight and taking an official visit — despite already being committed to James Madison University.

The three-star took in everything USC had to offer while the Trojans pulled off a massive win over the Ohio State Buckeyes, and that all led to a flip and commitment from Jones.

He saw a chance to play what he deemed to be a high level of football at the college level, and he took it.

"With next-level football, you get next-level coaching and development. For me, it's the coaching and the academics. A degree you get from Southern California isn't just a four-year degree. It's a lifetime degree and you have connections after football," Jones told Gerard Martinez of 247Sports regarding his decision to flip from JMU to USC.

Simeon Jones Jr. is about to hit the national recruiting radar

Jones is a bit of an unheralded prospect (247Sports doesn't even have a ranking on him at the time of this writing), but he is ranked by Rivals as the No. 128 defensive lineman in the class of 2027.

As a junior at North Augusta High School, Jones notched 41 tackles, three sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one interception.

He's stepped it up even more in his senior season. His team is prepping for a playoff run, but in the meantime, he's put up 59 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and three sacks as a senior.

A commitment to USC is going to put Jones on the radar in a big way, so more big-time offers could be headed his way. He seems to be confident in what he can become at USC, though.

“I can reach my full potential both on the field and off the field,” Jones told Rivals. “It’s a school that has a history of winning and sending guys to the next level.”
