Giannis Antetokounmpo had high praise for Luka Doncic after Monday’s clash between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat.
The Greek Freak was gracious in defeat following the Heat’s 138-117 loss to the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. Doncic lit into the Heat for 42 points on 14/24 shooting. He also dished out 13 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds in an all-around performance.
Antetokounmpo made a bold claim about Doncic during his postgame press conference.
Giannis: “[Luka Doncic] is one of the best scorers.”
Reporter: “Right now, for sure.”
Giannis: “No, the best of all time. Some people are afraid to say it, but I’m not. Definitely one of the best scorers of all time.”
Giannis knows a thing or two about scoring. He averaged over 25 points per game in each of his last nine seasons. At his level, Antetokounmpo knows how to appreciate Doncic’s offensive talent when the Lakers star is at his best.
Doncic entered Monday on a historic tear, averaging 37.7 points on 48.2 percent shooting and a stunning 5.8 three-pointers per game through six contests. He somehow bumped those numbers up against the Heat.
Despite just now entering his prime, Doncic has already performed at an all-time level as a postseason scorer. Only Michael Jordan averaged more than his 30.9 points per game in the playoffs.
When it’s all said and done, Doncic could very well cement his case in the GOAT scorer debate. He’d probably have the title locked down for sure if he had Yaxel Lendeborg talking trash to him each and every night.
