Westbrook, who will be turning 38 years old on Nov. 12, reacted positively to the news.
“It’s amazing; it’s a true blessing,” Westbrook said, via 107.7 The Franchise’s Daniel Bell. “Quite frankly, it’s not just for me, my family, my kids, wife, my mom, my brother-in-law, the entire city. Being able to grow up not even imagining you’d be able to be a professional athlete, needless to say, be in the NBA. But to be able to get your jersey retired, it creates a legacy. It creates a sense of all the work, time, effort and energy you put into the game. I’m just truly grateful for that honor. I look forward to that night.”

Westbrook never won an NBA championship, but he left an indelible mark on the Thunder franchise. He won the 2016-17 MVP award and averaged a triple-double for the entire season.
Selected fourth overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft, Westbrook quickly became one of the league’s best players. He was an All-Star in eight of his 11 seasons with Oklahoma City.
Although Oklahoma City traded Westbrook to the Houston Rockets in 2019, he has always enjoyed the love and support of Thunder fans. He will experience that once again when the former NBA Most Valuable Player sees his jersey raised to the rafters.
