The Timberwolves intend to sign forward Norchad Omier to a two-way contract, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype ( Twitter link).
Omier, who went undrafted out of Baylor in 2025, spent most of his rookie season in the G League. The 6’7″ forward initially played for the Cleveland Charge and then finished the year with the San Diego Clippers after he signed a two-way deal with L.A. in February. He also appeared in six regular season games for the Clippers at the NBA level.
The first NBA player to be born in Nicaragua, Omier appeared in a total of 38 G League games for the Charge and Clippers last season and averaged 18.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 29.3 minutes per contest, shooting 59.2% from the floor and 78.7% from the free throw line. He earned a spot on the G League’s All-Rookie team and finished third in NBAGL Rookie of the Year voting.
Although the Clippers opted against tendering Omier a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent, he suited up for their Summer League team and had a strong showing in Las Vegas, averaging 10.6 PPG and 9.8 RPG in five games (20.3 MPG).
The 25-year-old subsequently signed a training camp contract with the Timberwolves and was waived ahead of the regular season after making six preseason appearances for the team. He was set to rejoin the Charge for the start of the G League season before reaching a new deal today with Minnesota.
The Timberwolves don’t currently have a two-way spot available, so they’ll have to waive one of their current two-way players – Rocco Zikarsky, Zyon Pullin, or Enrique Freeman – in order to create an opening for Omier. According to Scotto (Twitter link), Freeman will be the odd man out, as he’s dealing with an injury that will keep him out of action for the next few weeks.
Assuming his contract is officially finalized on Tuesday or Wednesday, Omier will be able to appear in a maximum of 46 regular season games for Minnesota this season. He wouldn’t be eligible for the playoffs unless the Wolves promote him to their standard 15-man roster before the end of the regular season.
