Jets make NHL history with unfathomable comeback win over Canadiens

Well, that's one way to snap a nine-game losing streak.

The Montreal Canadiens led the Winnipeg Jets, 4-0, with 2:40 left in Tuesday's contest. However, it was the Jets that called game.

Winnipeg scored four goals within 128 seconds, capped off by a power-play tally by Kyle Connor with 32 seconds left in regulation.

The Jets also saw goals by Tyrel Bauer, Morgan Barron and another from Connor during the flurry to take the game to overtime, where Dylan Samberg won it 3:30 into the extra frame.

Jets' comeback wasn't just impressive — it was historic

The Jets' wild comeback was the fastest four-goal comeback in NHL history by starting it 57:21 into the game, according to ESPN Insights. It bested a comeback by the Los Angeles Kings, who rallied from four down starting at 52:46 into the contest to beat the Dallas Stars, 6-5, in overtime on Nov. 10, 2007.

This comeback by Winnipeg will probably be overshadowed by some of the bigger rallies in league history — The Miracle on Manchester where the Kings erased a 5-0 deficit to stun the Edmonton Oilers in the 1982 postseason and the Comeback on Katella where the Anaheim Ducks made a 3-0 hole vanish in 3:01 to beat the Oilers in the 2017 playoffs to name a few — but it was important enough for the Jets to find success in a post-Connor Hellebuyck world.

The 2025 Hart Memorial Trophy winner was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 23 and won his debut four days later. Winnipeg lost its first five games since then but can get back on track now, especially against a Canadiens team that is contending in the East.

The win keeps the Jets afloat in the Central Division for now and gives them hope in Hellebuyck's replacement, Stuart Skinner, but more importantly, it gives the team and fans the opportunity to finally move on.
