Sophie Cunningham has become quite the high-profile WNBA star as of late, and she was one of the Indiana Fever's biggest names last season. Cunningham has amassed more than 4 million Instagram followers alone, and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her social media following.
But fame can come with unwanted attention. Now, Cunningham is opening up about getting stalkers and what she's doing to combat them. It's just one negative to being a famous sports star, and she's certainly not the first to experience it.
The WNBA star says that she's hired security to travel with her everywhere she goes because of concerns over stalkers.
"I've definitely hired security," Cunningham stated on her "No Hesitation" podcast with basketball trainer Drew Hanlen.
She added, "I will say... definitely in certain places, people kind of knew who I was and I couldn't really go anywhere. Now it doesn't matter what state, what city, it's everywhere."
Cunningham continued, "And so I've hired security and they're going to start traveling with me actually next week 24/7. So that's a little different. It kind of stops you from your regular routine."
The statement comes after Cunningham said during an Oct. 28 interview on the "This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von" podcast that she had stalkers.
"There's also a lot of kind of crazy people too," Cunningham said on the show. "We do have a lot of stalkers, I know I do... And that's the negative side of things that people don't think about... I have 20, I think, people kind of that the FBI are watching for me."
Cunningham is an unrestricted free agent after spending the 2026 WNBA season with the Fever.
