Chargers reportedly not 'eager to enter teardown mode' despite falling to 0-7

A report from ahead of this past weekend revealed that the Los Angeles Chargers were "unwilling to wave any sort of white flag" at that time and had "shut down trade inquiries for" veteran players such as edge-rusher Khalil Mack and wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

Even after the Chargers fell to 0-7 on the opening day of November, head coach Jim Harbaugh insisted that the Chargers "want Khalil Mack here" and that "Mack wants to be here."

For an update shared on Wednesday morning, ESPN's Dan Graziano suggested that Harbaugh and Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz are serious about not punting on the remainder of the season.

Chargers still not "open to trading players" despite losing streak?

"I've been asking teams if they have a sense of what the Chargers are going to do ahead of the trade deadline, and a couple told me over the weekend that they don't get the sense that Los Angeles is eager to enter teardown mode," Graziano wrote. "At least entering Sunday, I wasn't getting the impression that the Chargers were open to trading players to inquiring teams."

The perception exists that Harbaugh and/or Hortiz could be in danger of losing their jobs if things continue to go from bad to worse for the winless Chargers. Quarterback Justin Herbert has played so poorly since Week 1 that he could be traded during the offseason as part of a franchise reset that could involve the Chargers also embracing a regime change.

Could the Chargers change their minds about Khalil Mack and Quentin Johnston before Nov. 10?

"We'll see what this week brings regarding players such as edge-rusher Khalil Mack, wide receiver Quentin Johnston, etc.," Graziano added about the Chargers.

The Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are teams that reportedly could be interested in a pass-rusher such as Mack. Meanwhile, the 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders are clubs that have been linked with receivers for weeks.

The Chargers next host the 2-5 Houston Texans this coming Sunday. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Los Angeles as a 4.5-point underdog against Houston. It sounds like some teams think the outcome of that game could impact whether or not the Chargers enter a "teardown mode" before Nov. 10.
