The NFL trade deadline is approaching on Nov. 10, and several big names have emerged in trade rumors. While most of the attention surrounds established stars potentially changing teams, their departures could create opportunities for younger players.
For fantasy football managers, some of these overlooked players could also be worthwhile stashes before the deadline. Even if the rumored trades never materialize, several have already shown flashes of potential.
Here are six NFL players who could benefit from trade deadline moves.
Star running back Jonathan Taylor has emerged as the top trade candidate as the Indianapolis Colts look to continue their fire sale. If Taylor is moved, rookie Seth McGowan could step into a much larger role.
The seventh-round pick has recorded 163 rushing yards on 37 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per attempt. At 6-foot and 223 pounds, McGowan has the size to handle additional carries.
While DJ Giddens could also receive opportunities, McGowan would have a chance to establish himself as Indianapolis' primary running back.
Tony Pollard has emerged as a popular trade candidate as the Tennessee Titans look toward the future. If Pollard is dealt, Tyjae Spears could take over as the team's lead running back.
Spears has flashed impressive explosiveness and receiving ability throughout his career. However, injuries have limited his availability and raised concerns about his ability to handle a full workload.
Despite those concerns, Spears remains an intriguing young player who could benefit significantly from Pollard's departure.
Josh Downs recently requested a trade and is now one of the top receivers in trade rumors. On the other hand, veteran Keenan Allen could also potentially be moved. If either receiver departs, rookie Deion Burks could see an increase in playing time.
Burks has played a limited role behind Indianapolis' established receivers but possesses impressive speed as he ran a 4.30 40-yard dash at the NFL combine and has big-play potential.
Although Alec Pierce would remain a prominent part of the passing attack, Burks could receive more opportunities as the Colts look to develop their younger players.
Brian Thomas Jr. has been involved in trade speculation following a disappointing stretch after his outstanding rookie season. If Jacksonville decides to move Thomas, Josh Cameron and Travis Hunter could benefit from additional opportunities.
Cameron showed promise earlier this season, particularly in the red zone. However, his production has slowed, and he has failed to record a catch in his last two games. Meanwhile, Hunter's dynamic two-way ability makes him an intriguing offensive weapon. With Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers also involved, a Thomas trade could give both young receivers an opportunity to establish larger roles.
A Breece Hall trade appears unlikely, but Braelon Allen has already demonstrated his ability to handle a starting role. With Hall sidelined, Allen has rushed for 445 yards and two touchdowns over his last four games, including three 100-yard performances.
The physical running back has taken full advantage of his increased workload, showing the Jets he can be a reliable option. Although New York has expressed interest in retaining Hall, Allen would immediately become the team's primary running back if a surprise trade occurs.
The NFL trade deadline could open the door for several young players looking to establish themselves. While not every rumored trade will materialize, these six players could benefit from increased opportunities if their teams decide to make changes.
