LSU Tigers women's basketball put on a show against the Texas Southern Tigers with royalty in attendance.
On Thursday, 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and LSU great Angel Reese returned to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and witnessed a historic performance from her former team, which won, 131-22, the largest margin of victory (109 points) ever in a game between two D-I programs.
Seven Tigers scored in double digits, led by freshman forward Anna Minaeva off the bench with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Senior guard Mikaylah Williams added 20 points, while transfer Jada Williams had 18 as LSU continued an absurd start to the season. Through two games, it's outscoring its opponents by 203 points, 260-57.

The signs of a blowout were there after Monday, when LSU set a then-program record with a 94-point victory over Southeast Louisiana, 129-35, and Texas Southern lost at Tulane, 92-38. But the historic Tigers win is still hard to fathom even with that context in mind.
LSU shut out Texas Southern in the second quarter, winning the frame 40-0, then went on a 43-0 run after Jayla Cornelius hit a three for Texas Southern that cut the lead to 75-16. Overall, it won the second and third quarters by 67 points, 70-3.

In 2023, Reese led LSU to the first women's basketball national title in program history, and based on the scintillating start from this year's squad, No. 2 could be in play in March.
While Texas Southern and SE Louisiana don't give us an accurate gauge of how good these Tigers truly are, we won't have to wait long to learn if they're legit. At the end of November, Associated Press No. 9 LSU plays a back-to-back in the Fort Myers Tip-Off with the second game against the No. 25 NC State Wolfpack (2-0). The Tigers also go on the road to play No. 12 North Carolina (0-1) on Dec. 2 and play No. 2 UConn (0-1) five days before Christmas in Nashville.
But through two games, LSU looks more than ready for the stiffer competition. After all, the Tigers aren't the only team to schedule cupcakes this early in the season. They are, however, the only squad making history.
