Browns' Jared Verse discusses being mad at teammates after Steelers loss, trash talk blowing up in his face

Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Jared Verse found himself on the wrong end of an embarrassing moment during Cleveland's 27-6 loss to the rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 1 when he was slammed to the ground by Steelers offensive guard Mason McCormick during an extra-point try.

On Thursday, Verse made it known that he spoke with his teammates after the defeat about not having his back immediately after the incident involving McCormick.

It upset Jared Verse he wasn't defended by teammates on the field

"The lack of reaction by those around me upset me a lot," Verse admitted, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. "...A similar play happened to (Browns defensive end) Derek Barnett on, I think, the next field goal, and I lost it because it was my brothers and my teammates. And when you do something like that to him, it upsets me very deeply. ...That's a conversation that we've had and spoken about."

Verse had a rough day after he vowed last week that the Browns were ready to "go dominate" the Steelers. He recorded one tackle in the loss at Acrisure Stadium, while the Browns' offense failed to produce a single touchdown drive.

"...I've made my issues known about the situation, but also I didn't put them in a position to let them know beforehand I was going to talk the way I talked to the Steelers and Steelers Nation or whatever they are," Verse continued. "I got to be better than that. I didn't do enough on my part. We all got to pick it up."

Jared Verse will continue "to be verbal in the way I play"

The Browns acquired Verse via the trade that involved two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett joining the Los Angeles Rams this past spring. Verse has yet to record a sack during his Cleveland tenure, but it nevertheless sounds like he's going to continue talking trash ahead of and during divisional games.

"I don't think it's any secret that I like to talk," Verse added. "I like to attack things. I like to be verbal in the way I play, the way I talk, the way I move around and everything. If you guys haven't figured that out by now, but no, that's the way I am. Obviously, I think I could have invited my teammates in on the conversation and letting them know what I was going to do, but I think that's just how I am."

The Browns will look to bounce back from the loss in Pittsburgh when 5-3 Cleveland plays at the 2-5 New Orleans Saints this coming Sunday. As of Thursday, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Browns as three-point underdogs for that matchup.
