At 2-6 heading into Week 9, the Indianapolis Colts' season is going nowhere in a hurry. Realizing they aren't a contender, the Colts traded offensive Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 27.
Having also dealt wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers ahead of the season, it's clear Indianapolis is rebuilding. So if the Colts are rebuilding, is it time to trade their top asset in star running back Jonathan Taylor? Many think so, creating tons of speculation about the future of one of the NFL's most consistent featured backs.
Below are some of possible trade destinations of teams who could use Taylor the most. Up until this point, the 27-year-old three-time Pro Bowler has 610 yards on an average of 4.1 per touch and eight touchdowns through eight games in 2026.
There's no contender who needs to find a running back to rely on more than Seattle. After letting Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker walk to Kansas City in the offseason, the Seahawks drafted Jadarian Price to the be the future of their ground game. Injuries have derailed his season and forced Zach Charbonnet into the top role.
Maybe the Colts would be hesitant to send two of their value pieces to the same franchise, but allowing Taylor to reunite with Nelson would get him out of the conference. The Seahawks might be desperate enough to offer significant compensation back in return.
With the uncertainty about if Josh Jacobs could get suspended again our if he can return to his past form, the Packers may have to look elsewhere and get on the phone with Indianapolis.
Jacobs has only totaled 75 rushing yards in his two games this season and the lack of a rushing attack has made life more difficult on Jordan Love as he tries to carry the offense. Sitting at the bottom of the NFC North, Green Bay needs a jolt if they are going to push towards the playoffs.
Cincinnati went all in during the offseason and deals with the constant pressure of trying to maximize having Joe Burrow. That said, they are just behind Pittsburgh for the AFC North lead. But they have been winning despite Chase Brown only putting up 340 yards with one touchdown.
Knowing they can't rely on Burrow and the receivers to keep overcoming being one dimensional forever, it could be time they pull the trigger on a move like acquiring Taylor. He would be a life changer for the Bengals and help convince Burrow that Cincinnati wants to win as bad as he does.
Likely preferring to trade Taylor to the NFC, the Vikings could view him as their missing piece. They are 6-1 and currently the class of the division, but that's in spite of a running by committee situation and starting quarterback Kyler Murray out with an injury.
Taylor would both be a necessary addition, but also one who could help them stay afloat. Maybe most importantly, he would allow the defense to rest more often.
