The Sergei Bobrovsky signing is looking bleak for the Maple Leafs

The Sergei Bobrovsky experiment seems like a disaster for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Since the Maple Leafs acquired the veteran netminder and two-time Stanley Cup champion, he has now allowed three-plus goals in 11 of his first 12 starts with the team.

Bobrovsky has logged a poor 3-7-2 record, and including his performance against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday (four goals allowed), he's logged a save percentage of .886 and a 3.33 goals against average (GAA).

It was another game with Bobrovsky between the pipes, and even with the return of John Tavares in the lineup and the team's attempt of making a comeback after a 3-0 deficit, the Maple Leafs lost 4-2.

The skepticism surrounding the Sergei Bobrovsky signing has come to life

Bobrovsky's backup, Anthony Stolarz, has picked up the slack with a 5 -1 record, a .910 save percentage and a 2.66 GAA. But with double the amount of starts, Bobrosvky has performed below average and has weighed down the team.

Bobrovsky is quickly becoming a problem for Toronto, and while the defense has also been to blame, including struggling on the penalty kill, a good portion of the goals that Bobrovsky has given up has been troublesome.

He has shown to be out of position with goals scored over his shoulder, has failed to poke check and has also lacked the ability to make routine saves.

The skepticism that analysts had regarding general manager John Chayka signing Bobrovsky has now come to surface as he's looked washed up. With only three wins across his 12 starts, he is ultimately slaying any playoff hopes that the team has.

Toronto has now fallen to 1-4-0 in its last five games, with the only win being over one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL in the Vancouver Canucks.
