Cam'Ron savages Doc Rivers for 'always complaining' after Giannis Antetokounmpo IQ jab

Cam'Ron went after Doc Rivers' coaching resume Friday on ESPN's First Take, which aired live from Tuskegee University as part of its HBCU tour, one day after Rivers questioned Giannis Antetokounmpo's basketball IQ on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Rivers told Simmons that Antetokounmpo was not easy to coach, questioned his IQ and said he wished the forward had learned to execute better. Rivers coached him for two and a half seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks before stepping down in April after a 32-50 finish, and the Bucks traded Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat over the summer.

Stephen A. Smith called the remarks foul but said he saw no malice in them, and he offered a different explanation for how Antetokounmpo plays.

"It's not that Giannis is some clueless player who doesn't know how to think or whatever, it's the equivalent of a boxer like Mike Tyson," Smith said.

Cam'Ron skipped the defense of Antetokounmpo and took the conversation straight to Rivers' career.

"I'm tired of Doc Rivers. Doc Rivers is always complaining. He never gets it done since Boston. He has one championship ... His resume is not that good ... he's overrated with his resume as a coach. I'm sick of Doc and everybody talking about he's one of the best coaches ever," Cam'Ron said.

Does Doc Rivers' resume back up Cam'Ron's 'overrated' claim?

The one championship came with the Boston Celtics in 2008. In the 13 seasons since Boston traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013, none of Rivers' teams reached a conference finals. His Clippers blew 3-1 series leads to the Houston Rockets in 2015 and the Denver Nuggets in 2020. His Philadelphia 76ers went out in the second round three straight years, and his Bucks went 97-103 with two first-round exits before missing the playoffs last season. Cam'Ron has the numbers on his side.

Rivers entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame with the class of 2026 in August after 27 seasons as a head coach, a run that included Coach of the Year honors with the Orlando Magic in 2000.

Rivers is working as an NBC analyst this season and told Simmons he has no plans to coach again.
