The 2011 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider, Shane Proctor of Grand Coulee, Wash., decided that 2024 will be his last competitive year bull riding. The six-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier and nine-time Professional Bull Riders finalist took to social media to announce his retirement.
Proctor has come back from multiple injuries, including one that was supposed to sideline him for four months in 2021, and he only took 32 days off.
Proctor announced, "I've always done it best when I can see my goals in writing, and I've always done things my way, so 2024 will be my last 365 days of riding bulls."
Known as an all-around hand, Proctor confirmed that his time in the arena isn't over; it just won't be on the back of a bull.
"Now, you might see me riding some broncs or roping a couple calves after 2024, but this WILL be the last year of bull riding."
Proctor is married to Haley Ganzel Proctor, a professional trick rider nominated three times for the PRCA Top Five Dress Act of the Year.
Haley has been performing at professional rodeos since the age of six. Her father was a PRCA bull rider, and her family instilled in her a love of the Western lifestyle.
Shane looks forward to spending time with his lovely wife and daughter, Coulee.
Fans looking to watch their favorite bull rider, Proctor, can find him competing in Denver, Colo., at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo on Jan. 19 at 1:30 p.m. MST and 8 p.m. MST along with at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on Jan. 27 and 28.
The future will no doubt be full for Proctor as the World Champion recently began coaching rodeo students at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, along with mentoring them about the business side of the sport.
