'Yellowstone' Stars Back to Lead Another Season?

Producers of the Yellowstone franchise have been playing a game of 'will they or won't they?' with fans of the series the past couple of weeks. The show was set to end after the conclusion of Season 5. Those plans changed just before the premiere for Season 5B, when Paramount released evidence that the sixth and final installment of the western drama is in the works.

Originally, the tale of Yellowstone had no indication of ending after Season 5; however, complications between the creator, Taylor Sheridan, and lead actor Kevin Costner caused the actor to part ways with the franchise for good. This resulted in an announcement that the series would conclude after part 2 of Season 5, with plans to continue the Dutton story in another series originally called 2024. The sequel has since been changed to Madison, and follows a New York City Family as they make a new life in Montana's Madison River valley.

Despite the plans to end the fan-favorite show, just before the premiere of Yellowstone Season 5B, there were reports that Paramount is considering a sixth season. According to Puck, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are intended to take over the lead from Costner, who portrayed John Dutton up until the end of Season 5A. Hauser and Reilly were rumored to be joining the cast of Madison along with co-star Luke Grimes, but it seems that this is no longer the case if Season 6 is in fact the works.

While nothing is definitive yet, fingers are crossed as season 5B premiers on November 10, 2024. Cast member Ian Bohen had hinted that fans will need to keep tissues on hand while watching, due to the tearjerker of an ending. The hope is that the conclusion of the Dutton storyline in the back half of the fifth season will indicate a sixth-season revival.
