The Vans Salman Agah pro model shoe was a groundbreaker when it dropped in 1994. Turned out it was lightyears ahead of its time with its design and rubber toecap. It's no wonder Vans has reissued it over the years. Check this history lesson from the man himself and a look at the ultra-rare version bearing his pizza joint's name on the heel. Yeah, Sal!
"They brought it back. Thirty years later, the shoe that carried Salman Agah through the streets, the alleys, the busted-up curbs of ’94. Back when switch was still a dirty trick and the pros bled for their names. This time it comes out smelling like hot cheese and asphalt—PIZZANISTA! stitched right in. A low-top ghost from another time, suede uppers worn like a fighter’s knuckles, rubber toe cap like a dented brass knuckle. The kind of thing you could kick a wall in with and still walk home. Vans called it a reissue. I call it a resurrection. Same elephant on the tongue, same waffle grip underfoot. You can almost hear the boardslap, feel the grit of grip tape chewing at the toe, the dull thud of four wheels over sidewalk seams. It’s for the ones still out there—scraping their knees, burning their mouths on hot pizza, keeping the night alive."
Crazy that the two first pro models from Vans were from two dudes from San Jose, California. We love history lessons like this.
