David Toole, owner of South Carolina's Bluetile skate shop is always hooking us up with the nitty-gritty details of our favorite skate shoe drops. We've been seeing a ton of hype leading up to the release of the new Vans Old Skool 36+ (which is available today, January 30th, just FYI!) and he took the time to deep dive into all the details of these new kicks.
If you had any questions, well, considered them answered! Press play:
The original Vans 'Style 36' (which we know as the 'Old Skool' these days) was first released in 1977—the second skate shoe Vans ever released—and as mentioned in the video, it was the first time the world was introduced to the Vans Sidestripe. Kind of a trip, right?
It was a shoe that was designed by skateboarders, for skateboarders, which was actually a new concept back in the late 70s. Nevertheless, the shoe played a huge role in pushing skateboarding progression. I mean, where would we be without the Old Skool!?
The new Skate Old Skool 36+ is basically a modern version of the timeless classic. Vans stayed true to the original Style 36 silhouette and panel proportions, but the updated version is designed for the wear and tear of modern day skateboarding (which is obviously a little different than it was in 1977).
Say what you want, but puffy skate shoes are officially back. Even Vans is joining in on the fun. All of us old dudes are just getting older and the kids are calling the shots! Eh, what am I saying, actually? That's the way it's always been and I'm here for it. Regardless, every colorway looks sick and these look genuinely tough.
Again, the Vans Old Skool 36+ and the apparel collection to go along with it are available at local skate shops across the globe today, as well as the Vans site. I'm curious as to how they skate. But something tells me we'll all know soon enough.
