Think of how many times normal folks have walked up and down the Santa Monica Triple Set without knowing it's such an iconic part of skateboarding history. Skate "spots" are funny like that.
As Street League Skateboarding prepares for its upcoming "Spot Takeover" at the Santa Monica Pier, Cordano Russell and Ryan Decenzo stopped by the legendary set to reflect on their favorite clips over the years and to discuss the significance of the spot just in general. A proving ground, indeed. Take a look:
Yep, that's right. Street League is coming to Santa Monica in a few weeks, and they're switching up their usual format. They recently shared the official course reveal, and it's actually looking pretty rad, all things considered. Check it below.
According to SLS, the Triple Set will be custom-built and dropped directly on the Santa Monica Pier, which is pretty wild to imagine. They're basically turning this iconic spot (which happens to be a stones throw from the event) into a live, free skateboarding event that is open to the public. You rolling?
"We're transforming the iconic Santa Monica Pier on Friday, May 23, in the league’s first-ever ‘Spot-Takeover’ event," SLS mentioned on their website. "A custom-built course will rebuild the Santa Monica Triple Set—one of skateboarding’s most iconic spots—right on the Santa Monica Pier for a FREE festival that pays homage to the place that shaped skateboarding into what it is today."
Hit the Street League site for more info. And mark your calendars for May 23rd!
