A young skier passed away in an accident at Alta Ski Area in Utah's Little Cottonwood Canyon this past Sunday.

On March 8, 2026, Alta Ski Patrol responded to a medical emergency on the "Nina's" trail at approximately 12:00 p.m.

According to Alta Town Marshall Mike Morey, the victim was a 19-year-old male. Officials believe the skier accidentally collided with a tree. He was given life-saving measures on scene and transported to the base area before being airlifted to a nearby hospital. The patient succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

The victim's name is not being released at this time and authorities are currently investigating the incident further.

Nina's is a black diamond run off the Collins Lift at Alta. Over the last two weeks, Alta has seen significant snowfall, with 33" of snow falling over the last six days.
