On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Lake Reveal, a popular pond skimming spot at Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, appeared.
The small body of water remains covered by snow throughout the winter. Then, when spring and the late season arrive, it emerges as the snow melts, heralding the final weeks of lift-accessed operations at Arapahoe Basin.
Check out one of the first skiers to sample the pool of water in the photo below.

Located on the ski run Dercum’s Gulch, Lake Reveal is starting small this year. In its iteration on Saturday, it looked more like a puddle skim than a pond skim.
At full bore, though, Lake Reveal is a spring-skiing draw, offering Arapahoe Basin visitors the opportunities to test their mettle or get wet, depending on their balance.
With warm, above-freezing temperatures in the Arapahoe Basin forecast, Lake Reveal should expand by next weekend, when the ski resort plans to offer its final days of skiing and riding this season.
Last month, Arapahoe Basin outlined its June operating schedule. From Monday through Thursday of this week, the ski area is temporarily closed. Then, on Friday, Arapahoe Basin will reopen, spinning the lifts through Sunday.
At the time of writing this article, Sunday, June 8, 2025 remains the ski area’s stated closing date.
But in an email shared almost two weeks ago, a representative from Arapahoe Basin hinted that skiers and snowboarders might be able to enjoy another weekend of lift operations, provided the weather and conditions cooperate.
“We need cool temps and grey skies to get us there,” the representative wrote.
During the 2023-2024 season, Arapahoe Basin made it until June 16.
Bonus weekend or not, Arapahoe Basin has maintained its status as one of the only North American ski areas and ski resorts to offer lift-accessed skiing and snowboarding in June.
Next weekend, it’ll be joined by Mammoth Mountain, California, and Timberline Lodge, Oregon, in offering some exclusive late-season snow sports action. Beartooth Basin, Wyoming, a unique summer-only ski area, recently got started, too.
At Arapahoe Basin, the summer season is scheduled to begin June 27, featuring biking, a via ferrata, the aerial adventure park, live music, and more.
