Late last week, a crowd of freeskiers descended on Copenhagen, Denmark, for the fifth annual Scandinavian Team Battle, a competition that pits teams of freeski competitors against one another on the dry slopes of CopenHill.

If anything, the event proved that snow isn’t a prerequisite for some high-flying ski action. On the course, which included a repurposed chairlift, the skiers threw down.

As is tradition, the competition included a roster of two skier teams sorted by five nationalities: Sweden, Denmark, France, Finland, and Norway. An additional sixth slot went to the two skiers who performed the best during a new open qualifier. In the pro competition that came after the qualifier, whoever put down the wildest tricks earned the most points.

After the artificial snow had settled, three teams landed on the podium:

Team Norway, 1st Place: Eirik Moberg and Mats Bjørndal

Team Sweden, 2nd Place: Joel Magnusson and Emil Granbom

Team Qualifier, 3rd Place: Scum Of Skiing and Thor Hundborg

Scandinavian Team Battle drew more than 1,300 attendees this year. Outside the skiing itself, the event included live music, street food, and an afterparty on the roof of the CopenHill complex.

“This was by far our biggest and best year yet, and I’m stoked to keep the event going for years to come,” said Jakob Ebskamp, organizer and member of Team Denmark.

Ebskamp did note that a few skiers, including himself, got injured during the competition but were able to walk away from the course and still enjoy some fun at the afterparty. Aside from that, in an email, he called this year’s Team Battle “quite perfect” with good weather and an “insane” course.

Footage from the competition has already begun to appear on social media, but a longer recap is in the works.

CopenHill is one of Europe’s many summer ski slopes that relies on artificial snow. But it has a unique calling card: CopenHill is perched on the flanks of Amager Bakke, a hulking waste-to-energy plant. Non-professionals can check out the dry slopes for about $23 an hour (rentals are available, too), so if you’re looking to kill some time during a summer vacation to Copenhagen, you know what to do.
