Brundage Mountain, Idaho started off the season slowly, but 'Miracle March', to the tune of 71 inches of snow, saved the season.
The resort is preparing for its last day of daily operations on Sunday, April 14th, but just announced that they'll reopen for a bonus weekend on April 20th and April 21st, conditions and weather permitting. Tap to see the announcement below.
According to Brundage spokesperson April Whitney, this March was the ski area's, "...second snowiest we’ve seen in more than a decade, and that bounty of late-season snowfall is something we’re excited to share with our passholders and other guests.”
The resort is currently reporting base depths ranging between 47" at the base of the ski area and 86" at the summit. Plenty to last for the remaining weeks of the season.
To sweeten the deal, Mother Nature seemed to miss the memo on the end of winter, and is sending more snow Brundage's way. The ski area is forecasted to receive up to a foot of new snow between Thursday, April 4th, and Sunday, April 7th.
Brundage has a special place in my heart thanks to a delightful trip I took to McCall, Idaho during the Winter '22/'23 season.
In particular, I couldn't get over how many pockets of extreme terrain could be accessed by taking a short hike out of bounds towards Sargent's to the looker's left side of the mountain.
The in-bounds terrain at Brundage was fun, steep, and covered with great snow, but the zone adjacent to 'Hidden Valley' is a can't-miss for skiers who enjoy big mountain lines, chutes, and steeps.
To all of the lovely folks in McCall that I met on my trip- enjoy your bonus weekend! I know this season hasn't lived up to last year, but it's all about what you make of it.
Get out there, have fun, and start making plans for next season. It will be here before we know it.
