"You know those friends that make you do stuff that you don't really want to do, but then they make you do it and then you're glad you did it?" asks comedian Katie Burrell in a recent short chronicling a trip to Arlberg, Austria.
This feeling is relatable, at least to me, as someone who is terrified of exposure. I can name several friends who have pushed me to do things I'm afraid of on several occasions, and I've always been glad to have done it afterwards.
This isn't the only relatable part of Burrell's Austrian adventure (watch below), although that is the premise of much of her content. After Burrell follows Freeride World Champion and Austrian local Lorraine Huber around some of Arlberg's spicier terrain, they head in for a lunch stop complete with a tour of Hospiz Alm's wine cellar. The sommelier, Karl Heinz, treats them to a tasting and selection of some presumably amazing wine along with lunch.
"I am telling myself it was four glasses of wine," says Katie, once back on the slopes, "but I fear it may have been more." Yeah...that one is pretty relatable too... at least when skiing in Europe. You can watch more of Burrell's adventure and impeccable comedic timing below and keep reading for more.
Burrell enjoys more Arlberg staples on her trip, including a nice sideslip down some exposed rocks in search of pow turns and dancing in ski boots while trying not to spill your pint of beer. #relatable.
Perhaps the coolest thing she finds in Arlberg, which is comprised of the villages of St. Anton, Lech, Zürs, and Stuben, is that the people there have a deep love for the place, the mountains, and its culture.
Whether its folks who's family has been in the area for generations or those who return year after year to enjoy the slopes, everyone there appreciates all that it has to offer.
