Winter's warm (cold?!) welcome to Colorado's high country continues.

Late Tuesday night (September 16, 2025), a storm moved in and dropped more snow on elevations above 11,000 feet. While snow totals weren't particularly significant, several ski areas racked up enough snow to bust out snow stakes and it's definitely enough to get us excited, given it's the second dusting of snow for Colorado this week.

Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, and Loveland Ski Area all got at least a light coating of white. OpenSnow's Colorado meteorologist, Joel Gratz reminded us earlier this week that September snowfall is fairly common and doesn't really give us any indication about the season ahead. Gratz is also not predicting any other major storms throughout the rest of September.

Arapahoe Basin got snow all the way to the mountain's base area, albeit not quite enough to start spinning lifts. A-Basin is still waiting a bit longer on weather to begin their seasonal snowmaking, but has guns in place and ready for whenever the moment hits, which is usually early-mid October.

They're also hoping to open ASAP, which in some years has been late October.

Just up the road from A-Basin, Loveland Ski Area has been putting the finishing touches on its new Lift 7 and also celebrating a bit of early-season snow.

Their snow stake shows roughly 2" of snow from this last little dump, although that number likely varies across the mountain. See below.

Copper and Breckenridge were also sporting a fresh coat of white today. Check out screenshots from their webcams that were taken in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

It's not much yet, but it is snowing!! How many days are left until we can ski?
