Amid a historically warm and often snowless season, another domino has fallen.

Deer Valley Resort in Utah just announced it plans to close on Sunday, March 29, 2026, weeks before its planned closing date of April 19.

In a recent post on X, the National Weather Service’s Salt Lake City office put the weather in sharp relief. Since March 18, the agency said, six daily high-temperature records have been broken in the city.

Up higher, that heat has melted snow and stymied resort operations. Across the state, snowpacks are well below normal, with some, in the south, having disappeared entirely.

Alta Ski Area plans to close its famed Wildcat lift this Thursday, but said, in a social media post, that it hopes “to return to our regularly scheduled program as soon as we can.” Some mountains, like Deer Valley, have pushed up their closing dates. Snowbasin Resort closed last weekend.

The difficult weather came as Deer Valley launched a sprawling new expansion.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team. In just a few short months, the team opened and operated nearly 100 new runs and eight new lifts—while navigating the lowest snowfall in Utah history,” said the resort’s president and COO, Todd Bennett, in a news release. “We have accomplished something that’s never been done before in the history of skiing.”

At Deer Valley, the final day of lift ticket skiing is Friday, March 27. The next two days are reserved for a “Season Pass Holder Appreciation Weekend” that allows midweek, Utah Limited, and Select Passes.

To celebrate the end of the season, the resort is hosting three days of parties at Chute Eleven under the apt “Beats and Bubbles” banner.

Skiing, for now, is set to continue elsewhere, if you don’t mind swapping your ski jacket out for a t-shirt.

Alta Ski Area’s closing day is scheduled for April 26. Solitude put May 17 on the calendar. Others, according to Ski Utah, have yet to confirm closing dates, like Brighton.
