According to the Beartooth Basin website, the legendary summer ski area will open this summer. Currently, the ski area's website says it will open for the season on May 25, 2025 and will remain open daily until July 6, weather permitting.
Beartooth Basin, which is located to northeast of Yellowstone National Park on the Wyoming/Montana border, is one of the country's only summer ski areas.
Sitting at 10,000ft on the Beartooth Highway, which is closed during the winter due to snow, Beartooth is a no-frills ski area with a majority expert terrain. The Twin Lakes Headwall provides access to 600 acres of 'in-bounds' skiing and access to more hike-to and backcountry terrain.

For numerous reasons, the ski area has struggled to open in recent years. The last time they were able to open was during the 2023 summer. However, due to poor conditions, operations ceased by mid-June, earlier than anticipated. Beartooth Basin remained closed during the 2024 season due to lack of snowpack.
In June of 2024, Beartooth Basin was listed for sale. While the current owners have committed to operating the mountain until new ownership is found that aligns with their mission for an independent ski area, they are actively looking for a new investor.
A page on the ski area's website details that prospective buyers would be investing in a 20-year permit which allows year-round operation to 90 acres and 1,000+ vertical feet as well as two high-speed Doppelmayr surface lifts, three snowcats, a portable diesel generator, and the all tools and equipment needed to operate the ski area.
A season pass to Beartooth Basin is $395 and daily lift tickets go for $50. The mountain limits ticket sales to 100 a day.
