Sugarloaf Mountain, ME, was set to unveil the biggest terrain expansion in Northeastern history since the 1970s. Unfortunately, this will have to be put on hold, to put things in lift terms.

Officials at the Loaf explained that although "last week, we announced the target opening of West Mountain and the Bucksaw Express lift, due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, Bucksaw and the West Mountain trails will not open this weekend."

People did not appear to be too upset. One commenter channeled her inner Donny Pelletier, writing, "bummah."

Others just continued to express gratitude for Sugarloaf as the biggest resort in the state, writing, "Wow, Sugarloaf is actually an unreal mountain that keeps getting better."

With 909 acres and 125 trails open as of today, we could not agree more.

Sugarloaf isn't letting their skiers down, and they put out some good news to balance the announcement. "The good news? We will be opening next week ahead of Vacation week and we have a TON of fun starting tomorrow, with DJ Greg Powers spinning tunes on the Bullwinkle's deck and a FREE live performance by the Mallett Brothers on Saturday."

But there's actually more good news: Orono Brewing Company released a Bucksaw IPA. What can I say, love for the Loaf runs deep.

The Mallett Brothers Band is an Americana/country group that does iconic folk songs, and their lyrics definitely speak to Mainers and skiers alike.

Listen to their rendition of "The Falling of the Pine" below. I love fiddle, and how good is that historic footage!

I'm sad to miss this one. For everyone who goes, get some turns off King Pine for me, and pour one out at The Rack for me afterwards!
