When Mammoth Mountain, California, said “at least,” they weren’t joking.
Up until today, May 8, 2025, the ski resort planned to remain open through “at least” Memorial Day weekend, according to its website. Now, Mammoth Mountain has revealed that its lift-accessed skiing and riding season will continue even longer, lasting into June.
The ski resort doesn’t yet have an official closing date and will continue evaluating conditions next week. Tickets to Mammoth Mountain are on sale through Sunday, June 8.
With the season extension, Mammoth Mountain will become one of the only North American ski resorts operating in June.
Palisades Tahoe, the other major ski resort in California known for its late-season offerings, plans to close on Memorial Day weekend. Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, will likely be open next month, too, while Timberline Lodge, Oregon, as is standard for its operational schedule, will continue to offer lift-served skiing deep into the summer.

Skiers can also make the pilgrimage to Beartooth Basin, Wyoming, a summer-only ski area that, after remaining closed last year due to low snowfall, plans to open on May 26, conditions permitting, according to its website.
At Mammoth Mountain, the stage is now set for dual-sport days that blend spring skiing and mountain biking. The ski resort’s bike park has a scheduled opening on May 23, meaning skiers who moonlight as mountain bikers can participate in both sports during the same day, provided they have the energy.
While Mammoth Mountain can be a mid-winter powerhouse—this season, the ski resort enjoyed several multi-foot snow storms—it’s known for truly coming alive when spring arrives and other destinations start closing up shop. Mammoth Mountain bills this period as its “Second Season.”
“Mammoth’s dedication to keeping the vibe alive, while producing the highest quality product simultaneously, was evident as I began to ski around the mountain,” POWDER senior editor Matt Lorelli wrote after one visit to the ski resort in June 2023. “It felt like the exact opposite of every spring skiing experience I’ve ever had.”
The duration of the “Second Season” varies depending on the snow and weather conditions. In 2023, after record snowfall, Mammoth Mountain stayed open until August 6. Last year, it closed up shop on May 27.
