Just a few weeks ago, Oakley teased a new collab with Meta (love it or hate it), and we were really hoping to hear some news about Meta-enabled ski goggles. The possibilities seemed endless!
As of now, there's no word on whether that will happen but a couple of conspicuous social media posts by perhaps the most famous skier alive might indicate some progress. Turns out Oakley athlete Mikaela Shiffrin has been having some fun at Oakley's interplanetary headquarters with the new smart glasses.
Shiffrin shared a short livestream from the lobby and auditorium of Oakley's headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California testing the new shades alongside her fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
I'm not generally a huge fan of integrating electronics into ski gear, but the new Meta "wearable tech" shows some promise. The integrated bluetooth "headphones" (actually a set of small speakers that vibrate bones in your ear to generate audible sound), plus the built-in low-profile POV cameras are both tools I'd use skiing all the time. Maybe I'm just getting old, but skiing with in-ear headphones really throws off my balance these days.
Oakley offers the new META integration in the popular HSTN design, shown off by Mikaela in her video. No goggles for now, but we can hope!
