The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder and that can only mean one thing- it's almost ski film premiere season! What better way to pass the last of summer's hot, long days than indulging in endless footage of the best powder skiing imaginable on the big screen?
We try not to play favorites, but in the hierarchy of annual ski films, some just happen to be superior year after year. Amongst these is whatever solo project Sammy Carlson has been cooking up. Last year, Carlson released Grown, which gave us just over ten minutes of epic spine skiing shot at BlackOps Valdez the previous winter, and was backed by music from Metallica.
By the looks of Carlson's most recent Instagram post, those who enjoyed Grown are in for a treat in the not-too-far-off future. Last spring, Carlson returned to BlackOps Valdez to film, and we heard through the grapevine that they had day after day of all-time film conditions.
During Winter 24/25, Carlson was able to knock out filming for his solo project, which celebrates the 20-year mark of his film career (his first ever segment appeared in the 2005 Poor Boyz Productions Film War!), and another project alongside other athletes.

"Not just a line — a step into terrain that once felt untouchable. Some lines change you — this was one of them. To fit in and exist in terrain on this scale is truly special. The mountain doesn’t hand these lines over; you earn every single turn with extreme presence and respect- like the rest of the world disappears. These Turns off the top will be forever etched into my soul!
I’m hyped to share more of what went down last spring — stay tuned, more footage dropping this Fall!!" wrote Carlson on Instagram.
POWDER is excited to see the final result of this trip Alaskan spine line trip, and whatever banger of a film he's dropping (hopefully) soon. 'Til then, we'll probably just be watching this clip on repeat and dreaming of winter...
