A snowboarder was injured and rescued at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, after falling and hitting a rock, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office’s search and rescue volunteers were called to help the injured snowboarder on the Cinder Cone at Mt. Bachelor around 12:30 p.m. The 29-year-old snowboarder was a recent Central Oregon transplant, the Sheriff’s Office said. His fall caused him severe pain in his hip and ribs.
Fifteen search and rescue volunteers brought the snowboarder safely down to a snowcat road. Mt. Bachelor’s staff used a snowcat to get him to the West Village parking area. From there, Bend Fire & Rescue transported the snowboarder to the St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where he was evaluated and his injuries were treated.
“We’re grateful to our SAR volunteers, Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol, and Bend Fire & Rescue for their teamwork and quick response,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Mt. Bachelor’s uphill travel policy, which allows for ski touring access provided skiers or snowboarders have a free uphill pass and follow the rules, will go into effect when the resort opens for the 2025-26 season.
Until then, the mountain is unpatrolled and uncontrolled. Mt. Bachelor, in its snow report, advised prospective ski tourers to stay away from equipment, crews at work, and infrastructure. They should call 911 in the case of an emergency.
Mt. Bachelor recently benefited from a storm that dropped about a foot of snow. According to forecasters OpenSnow, more could be on the way in the coming days and weeks. Mt. Bachelor plans to open for the season on November 28, 2025, with access via the Skyliner, Little Pine, and Pine Marten lifts, conditions permitting.
The accident on the Cinder Cone follows an announcement from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), which said that it had received a report of the first skier-triggered avalanche of the season on Friday, October 24, 2025.
In Colorado, the lift-served season’s already underway at Arapahoe Basin and Keystone Resort, which both opened over the weekend.
