The search continues for a fallen ski mountaineer on North America’s highest peak, Denali (Alaska), according to a news release from the National Park Service published on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
On Monday, two members of a three-person expedition group reported that an un-roped ski mountaineer had fallen at a location on the mountain known as Squirrel Point. The skier, a 41-year-old man, fell towards a rocky and icy 3,000-foot face called Peters Glacier, the National Park Service said.
The reporting party then lowered themselves over the edge as far as they could but were unable to spot or hear the missing skier. They climbed down the West Buttress route to secure additional help and have now reached Camp 1, where they are being taken care of by a ranger team.
As of Tuesday, ground and air search efforts had been put on hold due to high winds and snow, but the National Park Service said they would resume as soon as possible.
POWDER will provide updates on this developing story.
