Last week, during a trip with Cascade Powder Guides into the Washington backcountry, skier Noah Maisonet had an incredibly close call as he landed a massive backflip.
You probably don't need me to tell you this, but in an ideal world, you don't land on a buried obstacle after soaring 50-odd feet through the air. Landings are supposed to be, y'know, clear of stuff that could fold you in half.
But Maisonet, running on a combination of luck and skill, handled his business without a trip to the washing machine.
He wasn't the only skier to hit this feature, either. In the post's comments section, 4FRNT Skis—Maisonet's ski sponsor—revealed that another team member, Stinius Skjøtskift, got after it on the jump, too.
"Wait until you see @sti9us first hit too this feature was insane," 4FRNT wrote.
I'm waiting eagerly. Minus the unfortunate place lump (a tree? a rock?), the jump Maisonet launched is the stuff of backcountry freestyle dreams, likely capable of producing more than one mind-blowing shot.
