In case you've never perused the wide, wonderful world of Getty Images, it's a treasure trove of photos, new and old.
While sometimes actually finding the image you're looking for can be a bit of a task, more often than not, you end up finding some random bit of gold. Getty has tons of contributors and images of everything from events to historic images, to images that have run in newspapers, and more.
We all know that skiing, while not always, can be one massive demonstration of wealth, regardless of whether you're actually good at the sport. Certain ski towns are known winter getaway hotspots for some of the most famous people around.
After all, what better way to stay incognito than in full ski gear? So, with these two things in mind, we did some digging through the gajillion images on Getty to find some of the best images of celebrities on the slopes. Without further ado, here are 9 of our favorites.
I'm not sure if seeing a photo of Brad Pitt circa 1988with skis makes him more of a heartthrob because, you know, skiing? Or less because he's wearing jeans and looks like he's never held a pair of skis in his life. But hey, for the days of his earring and hair looking like that, we'll let the jeans slide, as long as he can actuallyski, I still don't have the ick.
Yes, technically, Lil' Jon is snowboarding in this, but whatever. For the levels of kookery some of these other pics exhibit, dare I say, Lil' Jon looks pretty dialed? There's a 100% chance you can find me listening to 'Snap Yo Fingers' while skiing this winter and thinking about this photo.
There are literally dozensof photos of the Royal family skiing throughout the years, so I went with this adorable photo of Prince William as a kid, learning to figure out the difference between French fries and pizza. Do you think the Royal family eats pizza, or do they have to come up with some other bougie, triangle-shaped food? Anyway, Prince William looks like he's having fun but not entirely sold on the sport yet, so here's hoping he figures out how to 'French fry' soon.
Stephen Colbert is not f*cking around in this photo, which makes sense as it was taken at a celebrity ski race on Aspen's NASTAR course during the Annual US Comedy Arts Festival. There's not a lot of indication of whether or not Colbert is actually a good skier (except for the rental tag on those skis...), but I have no doubt he showed up to that race ready to rumble and/or commit to whatever bit worked best with his actual ski abilities.
What can't Dr. Addison Montgomery Sheppard do? Oh, wait, that's just Kate Walsh, moonlighting as a ski racer at a celebrity ski benefit in 2016. For an event called 'Operation Smile,' Walsh isn't very smiley, but maybe she's just channeling that laser-sharp surgeon's focus to try and win this ski race.
You can almost hear Lance Bass' internal monologue as he hangs onto that rope tow: 'It's tearing up my knees to ski this blue, and when I'm skiing park, Ifeel it toooooo.' Maybe all those days of dancing with *NSYNC made Bass more coordinated than you'd think...
You could tell me Seal was on his way to go skiing or clock in for his shift as a flight nurse in this outfit, and neither would surprise me. Jokes aside, who knew Seal was into snow sports? Maybe the rest of the ski industry should take a leaf out of his book, after all, skiing is kind of a Man's Man's Man's World.
Only Heidi Klum could make ski fashion this dysfunctional look this good. That open jacket sure isn't going to keep snow out of your bibs, but it sure is chic. Kudos to Heidi for making everywhere she goes her own personal runway.
I've included this image at the request of our Senior Editor, Matt, for the nostalgia of his WVU days, although it actually might be the best one in here. Legendary folk singer, John Denver, is shown skijoring for the 1975 ABC TV special, 'Rocky Mountain Christmas.' Despite the fact that Denver was born in New Mexico, he's somewhat of an icon for the state of Colorado.
Not to one-up Matt's nostalgia with Denver's most famous song, but this image sparks a bit in me as well. Hearing 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' pretty instantly transports me back to hearing my mom sing that as a kid at our family's log cabin in Telluride. Pretty darn Colorado if you ask me.
