Historically, Mt. Hood's Timberline Lodge is one of, if not the last, ski area to close in the U.S. each year.

The volcano's Palmer Glacier often holds enough snow for Timberline Lodge to continue running lifts and hosting skiers well into the summer months. As a result, organizations like Windells and Mt. Hood Summer Ski Camps often hold training camps and events at Timberline during the summer months.

It's no secret that this winter has broken low snowpack records. Much of the U.S., including the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and Mt. Hood, has battled low snowpack and warm temperatures throughout the winter.

On Sunday, April 13, Mt. Hood Summer Ski Camp revealed that Timberline informed them of a projected closing date of July 19, 2026, due to low snowpack. See below. Keep reading for more.

Many PNW ski areas usually stay open through Memorial Day, conditions permitting. However, with Crystal Mountain, Mt. Baker, and Mt. Bachelor all closing on Sunday, April 19th, Timberline will remain one of the only open ski areas in the Northwest.

Mt. Hood Ski Summer Ski Camps has been operating summer camps on Mt. Hood for more than 40 years, offering programs in disciplines ranging from freeskiing to moguls to ski racing. In an average year, camps are offered throughout June, July, and August.

Given Timberline's communication about their predicted mid-July closing, Mt. Hood Summer Ski Camps announced changes to their summer programming: they will be unable to operate for Sessions 8-11 of camp.

Windells also offers summer ski camps and signature sessions that feature pro skiers and brands on Mt. Hood. Windells currently has Signature Sessions scheduled through August 1, 2026, featuring athletes and companies such as Kai Jones, Parker White, the Snow League, Salomon, and more.

Neither Windell's nor Timberline Lodge has made official announcements about the projected July 19th closing date. Timberline currently has 25" of snow forecasted to fall over the next five days, but continued warm temperatures and a lack of winter base could make any long-term snow retention obsolete.

Timberline Lodge closed last season on August 17, 2026.
