Mid-last week, things were cooling down in the Wasatch and some resorts were starting to see a few flakes fall. Forecasts started showing heavy rains and the possibility of up to 5" of snow for several Utah ski areas.

The storm that came in delivered, to say the least. What started as rain (the rainiest day recorded at the SCL airport in 100+ years) turned to inches and inches of sweet, sweet snowfall in the Wasatch mountains.

More than eight inches of snow fell in some locations, and a beautiful wintery, white coated mountains like Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, and Park City. While things might warm up a bit this week in the valley and much of that snow is expected to melt out, there's hopefully more on the way to Utah which, if it doesn't create scary October weak layers, will at least remind Utah skiers to start waxing their skis, getting their boots fit, and get excited for ski season.

Check out the snowy scenes from Utah's most popular ski resorts below. Pray for (more) snow!

The storm forecasted in the Wasatch last weekend came in hot! Or cold...

Anyway, on Friday night into Saturday morning, the Alta-Collins plot recorded well over an inch of rainfall which was double what had been forecasted. As temperatures dropped on Saturday, that rain turned to snow and roughly 8" of snow fell at Alta. 8" of snow! In October! A miracle! Alta's webcams were looking a bit more like early winter than early fall this morning as most of the resort got snow. It won't be long before that's the regular view.

Snowbird

Snowbird also reaped the benefits of this storm with their snow stake showing just under 6" on Monday morning, but it looks like some of that pile might have melted off the top.

Up high, it looks like Snowbird got more than 6" and might have been in the 8" realm alongside Alta. This is Snowbird's last week of summer operations and the last weekend of their Oktoberfest celebration. It doesn't look much like summer up there anymore, but more snow is expected this weekend, so if you plan to indulge in any last 'summer' activities, maybe dress more for winter!

Park City

Park City shared some gorgeous images of the recent storm's deposits alongside some incredible Park City foliage. It looks like this area of the Wasatch didn't get quite as much snow as Little Cottonwood, but any precipitation this early in the season is enough to get us excited.

Solitude

Solitude didn't get quite as much snow either, with only 2" reported in the last 5 days, but they're certainly making the most of what they do have. This past weekend was the Solitude' Bike Park's closing weekend, although biking in those temps is only for the bravest. Instead of biking, a couple folks took their rock skis (hopefully) and didn't quite get turns in, but did get a little snowy shuffle down the mountain by the looks of the video the resort posted. Solitude opens for the 2025/26 season in less than 40 days, so pray for more snow!
