The North American ski season may have finally concluded, but in South America, the fun is just getting started.
One of the continent’s largest ski resorts, Valle Nevado, Chile, is now 100% open with a season snowfall total already greater than six feet. While all of the ski resort’s terrain is open, 10% of its lifts aren’t spinning. All three of Valle Nevado’s hotels are open. The ski resort opened for the season a week ahead of schedule on June 13, 2025.
Ski Portillo, another Chilean ski resort, has just over half of its lifts open, but has a larger snowfall total to date than Valle Nevado, totaling about 94 inches, or just under eight feet.

At Valle Nevado, several events are scheduled for the coming months, including Fun Valle Week (July 5 to July 10), Valle Nevado Wine Week (August 12 to August 16), and Wellness Week (September 10 to September 13).
Last season, Valle Nevado—and other South American ski resorts—had an even more dramatic start. Thanks to an early snowfall, Valle Nevado opened far earlier than planned on May 31, 2024, with daily operations beginning soon afterward on June 7.
Valle Nevado received more than ten feet of snow throughout June of 2024.
Valle Nevado is among the southern hemisphere ski resorts best known by an international audience.
It’s accessible with a number of multi-passes that target U.S. skiers—including the Power Pass and Ikon Pass—and is owned by a Durango, Colorado-based company, Mountain Capital Partners (MCP). La Parva, which borders Valle Nevado, falls under the MCP umbrella, too. MCP’s multi-pass, the Power Pass, provides ten interconnected days to both ski resorts.
Portillo, another Chilean ski resort, has just over half of its lifts open but has a larger yearly snowfall total than Valle Nevado, totaling about 94 inches or just under eight feet.
The South American ski season is now well underway. Typically, resorts in the country remain open until mid-October. Last winter, Valle Nevado closed for the season on October 20.
