It's currently 86 degrees in Bend, Oregon and despite that as a POWDER writer, I'm always thinking about skiing, ski season feels very far away. However, the forecast is calling for temperatures to drop significantly here in the next week and as always, tacky-dirt season will come and go in the blink of an eye. Winterwill be here before we know it in the PNW.
As Labor Day has just passed, only a few PNW resorts have announced their opening days, but the rest likely aren't far behind. Fall in the northwest can be a bit unpredictable, so these are subject to change, depending on conditions.
Here's what we know so far:

As always, it depends on the year. However, last season, Mt. Bachelor had a particularly good early season and was able to open the resort two weeks ahead of schedule, and open their Summit Lift earlier than they had in 10 years. Just a bit further north, many of the Mt. Hood resorts like Meadows and Timberline also had excellent early seasons. Perhaps the most important thing is storms that come in right-side-up and stick, so that all that sharp, volcanic rock gets covered nicely.
Further north, if the faucet turns on, Mt. Baker can have an excellent early season as the resort that often gets the most snow in the continental US. Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass both sit at slightly higher elevations which can also bode well for early season snowfall and colder temps. Like anywhere though, it can be a bit of a gamble and ultimately up to Mother Nature to decide.
