Lewis Hamilton might be having a better winter than any of us.

The legendary Formula 1 driver posted a video on his Instagram on January 16, 2025 of him heliboarding with Shaun White and his photographer Timothy McGurr.

The location of the shredding was not disclosed, but CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures out of British Columbia, Canada commenting on the post, hinting that they were involved in shuttling Hamilton to the backcountry.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hamilton rips. The video shows him floating in deep powder in his Ferrari red snowsuit and avy pack. He drops in off a few cliffs, weaves through the trees, grabs method, and even attempts a tame dog (though he doesn’t quite land that trick).

He got some love from the snowboarding community in the comments section. Stevie Bell, Leanne Pelosi, Forrest Shearer, and Robin Van Gyn all showed their support.

“Sending it!” Van Gyn commented. “Love to see it.”

Hamilton’s love of snowboarding has been well documented. In Jamie Lynn’s episode of The Bomb Hole, he talked about riding up at the Baldface Lodge with the late Ken Block and Hamilton. Lynn backflipped off a stump jump, and Hamilton insisted that he needed to learn how to do it. While everyone went inside to eat, Lewis stayed outside practicing, and finally nailed the backflip before the end of their session.

Then at the end of 2023, a video of Hamilton snowboarding in Antarctica was posted online. Later, it was revealed that Aaron Paul, Jared Leto, and White were all on the trip as well.

Over the summer, Hamilton was named a Dior Ambassador, and he spent time designing his own winter collection. The winter lifestyle collection is a blend of snowboarding and Africa’ s landscape and cultures. It appears as if that’s what Hamilton was rocking during his backcountry day in British Columbia.

The F1 season starts in Australia in March, and it appears that Hamilton is taking advantage of his short offseason. The British race car driver cashed in big last year, when it was announced that he’d be joining the Ferrari racing team on a contract worth $446 million. The news shook up the world of F1, as Hamilton had raced for Mercedes his entire career leading up to the switch.

Hamilton has won seven Formula One Drivers’ Championship titles. That is a tie with Michael Schumacher for the record. He also holds the records for most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes. Hamilton turned 40 years old earlier in January.
